White Rock Creek

Named for the White Austin Chalk bed it runs through, White Rock Creek stretches 30 miles south-by-south east from the busy streets of Frisco, Texas, through Dallas and the majestic White Rock Lake, and finally down to the Trinity River.

The pond site behind Emmett J Conrad High School is located along the banks of White Rock Creek. During heavy rains, White Rock Creek overflows into the pond site and leaves debris behind when the floodwaters recede. Our goal is to restore the pond and keep it from collecting garbage during floods.

Over the years, the pond has collected massive amounts of logs, plastic, and glass bottles from upstream. The students and faculty of Conrad High School have tried tirelessly to clear the piles of garbage in the pond, but the constant, intense flooding of the White Rock Creek has made such a task all but impossible.

Despite its dreary and disorganized appearance, the pond hosts a vibrant ecosystem within the logs and marshes of the site.
