About Project

We are creating a digital client information form in order to replace the current paper forms used by the
child advocates to collect information about the family, outside of the interview. The form should reduce paper
waste and create better data transfer between the child advocates and the data manager, who directly types in
all the written information into a database. Currently, the form is filled out by hand before or during the forensic
interview. It is then scanned and emailed to the data manager, where she copies the form into the database.
The plan is to provide the user and the data manager a more user-friendly interface with built-in data validation
in order to avoid any confusion when the form data is being transferred into the database.

Current Status: The form is completed with all of the basic functionalities. It’s able to run locally in a computer owned by the Children’s Advocacy Center using WAMP and save entries in an excel sheet.

Goal:  Our main objectives are to finish all the back-end PHP, convert an excel sheet to a neat PDF offline, and revise and improve the UI/UX. If possible, due to time constraints, we would like to also create a script for an automated program to copy and paste from the PDF to a database.

Task:

  • More in-depth input validation
  • Further testing of form
  • Convert the excel sheet into a neat PDF
  • Create a script that will automatically copy and paste from the PDF to the database

Our Approach: We will visit the the back-end PHP and implement more user validation and test the form with Lydia. We will convert the excel spread sheet into a PDF using python, then create a script that will copy and paste from the PDF to the database.
