Awards & Acknowledgments

  • The Texas Veterans Commission this month honored the Military and Veteran Center with the Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (Gold). This is the MVC’s second consecutive year to achieve Gold status, the top tier of the award. The VEERA program recognizes public colleges and universities for their excellence in providing education and related services to veterans and the military-connected community.

Health & Wellness Initiatives

Center for Students in Recovery

  • September 11: Mind Over Mirror, noon-1 p.m., SSB 4.500. This is an open peer support group for students discussing body image and self-esteem.
  • September 13: All Recovery Meeting, noon-1 p.m., SSB 4.500.
  • September 15: 12-Step Peer Support Group, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., SSB 4.500.

Student Counseling Center

  • Let’s Talk programming is back. These drop-in appointments take place all over campus and in collaboration with campus partners to offer students an opportunity for a brief 15-minute drop-in consultation with a therapist.
  • Visit the SCC online for lists of available group counseling services and workshops.
  • All students have 24/7 free access to TimelyCare, a mental health app that offers brief counseling, psychiatry, Talk Now text and video chatting, health/motivation coaching, self-help, peer support and more. To access, they should download the TimelyCare app and sign in with their UTD email. The service is free and confidential.

Student Wellness Center

  • September 13: Free HIV testing, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • September 15: Food Freedom Friday, 10 a.m.-noon, Student Union second floor booth.

  • September 15: Greek Night at the soccer games, 4 p.m., soccer fields.

Student Development

  • September 11-13: SG fall election voting.
  • September 11: Graduate Student Assembly general body meeting, 11 a.m.-noon, SU 2.905 (Artemis Hall).
  • September 15: Homecoming Royalty nominations close, 11:59 p.m.
  • September 16: Cheer Clinic (18 and under), 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Rec Center West.
  • Cheer is still seeking additional members. Any interested student may contact head coach Nate Williams.
  • September 19: National Voter Registration Day, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the Plinth.
  • September 20: SOC Mixer, 6:30-7:30 p.m., SSA Gaming Wall Lounge.

Student Union

  • September 1: Splatter Dance, early tie-dye for first 50 students, 6 p.m.; doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the dance portion; party starts at 8 p.m., campus multipurpose grounds.
