About our Project Partner:

Kids-University, or Kids-U, was established by Diana Baker and Paula DeGroat with an initial mission to combat the issue of children in Dallas County not completing their education, focusing on low-income children from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Beginning in the Dallas Deerfield Apartments, provided by Bank of America, Kids-U swiftly expanded its offerings beyond after-school tutoring to include summer programming, monthly community dinners, and a Neighborhood Crime Watch program, recognizing the multifaceted needs of the community it served. By 2018, Kids-U has expanded its reach to serve over 400 students at 13 sites across the DFW metroplex. Embracing an approach that addresses the whole child, Kids-U focuses on four major areas: the individual student, the school, the family, and the community, recognizing that academic success is intricately tied to various social, familial, and environmental factors. In providing not only academic support but also addressing social development and community needs, Kids-U remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the lives of low-income children in Dallas, as it offers various resources for their community, such as after school tutoring, social emotional support, summer enrichment camps, family services program, and a community outreach program.

Project Description:

Kids-U has requested to start a new project where the team creates a database system accompanied with a UI/UX component, utilized for easy management and tracking of donors/volunteers and grant applications. The end goal is for the users (volunteers) to be able to log into the system and clock in / clock out hours of volunteering, sign up for events, and such, as well as being able to contribute donations to Kids-U. For the administration, the project is expected to have capabilities such as being able to view a list of all the donors/volunteers with certain data fields, keep track of grant applications, get notified for upcoming grant deadlines, and other streamlined forms of management.
