Project Description

TheLab.ms makerspace seeks to upgrade its access control system to facilitate user access to rooms using key fobs. Mr. Emes, the President of TheLab.ms Makerspace, has expressed concerns regarding the limitations of their current control system. Presently, their system is difficult to expand due to the controller’s unit limitation of four. The primary objective of this project is to develop a hardware-agnostic design capable of daisy-chaining readers and actuators along a single bus. This approach aims to enhance security measures and provide better access control insights, including user entry timestamp, door usage, and fob information. In the longer term of the project, our project partner aims to explore additional alternate key options, such as sensors, fingerprint readers, and QR code scanners, for integration into the new access control system
