Integrating EMR Systems

About our project

With our project partner, the Kellermann Foundation, we are working on a program that helps with integrating current Uganda EMR systems in hospitals. Our plan is to get connected with Mr. Osbert’s machine virtually and work on the project from there.

What we are designing

We are designing a database application to help out Uganda hospitals. The application consists of SWs and APIs that will be used to integrate current systems with the Uganda government system (Uganda EMR) and is a prototype interface.

Skills that we are using to build this prototype

We use our knowledge of Java, SQL, and XHTML. Not only that, but we also learned and know how to build a general web-server based database and program APIs. We have also familiarized ourselves with the “shell” version of the current hospital system provided by IT staff in the hospital. We will make sure that our system is completely tested.

Why this project is important to us

Working with a database helps us apply our programming skills to a real life problem in order to help us get experience of how work is in the real world (rather than just relying on school work). Also, it’s nice that we get to help out the Ugandan people who are suffering and need to go to hospitals there.
