ABOUT ASSA
Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) is a premier non-profit organization specializing in disability management, focusing on rural areas – located in Ayikudy Village in Tirunelveli District in South Tamil Nadu. They aim to establish a centralized resource center to act as a catalyst for change for individuals who are physically and intellectually challenged. We do this by involving the village community in the process. Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) was established by Mr. Ramakrishnan, in the International Year of the Disabled to cater to disability management in rural areas.
Speech Recognition
Working alongside students at Kasalingam Academy of Research and Education, we intend to create a cost-effective speech module that enables individuals with spinal cord injuries to gain computer access through the utilization of speech recognition. Our objective for the semester is to implement a Python-based, open-source speech-to-text model capable of receiving instructions and translating them into functions within a Word document. We plan to link the outputted text from the model to a command that will, in turn, execute the specified mouse and/or keyboard event. Ultimately, the end user should be able to open a Word document, type, perform keyboard shortcuts, and utilize the features within the Notepad.
