Current Project

The Globe International Ministries solar well pump project aims to provide drinking and irrigation water to rural villages in Honduras, El Salvador, and Kenya where more than 26% of the population is beneath the poverty level. This goal can be met with two primary solutions: a 25-foot shallow well for settlements near water, and a 200-foot deep well for villages further from water or at high terrain. In both of these cases, a configuration of solar panels would provide the primary source of energy for the pump-powered water wells, with the big picture idea being to minimize the solar panel and battery requirement for this so that the same cost-effective system could be deployed on a wider scale.

This project was brought to EPICS this semester and we hope to implement a working prototype by the Summer of 2023. This will include testing two different water pumps to see how they can be optimized at different pressures as well as trying different configurations of energy sources to maximize the efficiency of the overall systemÂ
