Spring Break Safety

As students, faculty and staff prepare to travel for spring break next week, the UT Dallas Police Department reminds the campus community to take safety precautions as you head to crowded or unfamiliar settings. If you are traveling out of the country, be sure to check travel advisories issued by the U.S. Department of State.

Whether you travel abroad or stay in the U.S., consider these tips:

  • Don’t take chances at your hotel. Lock the doors, and secure important belongings like passports and wallets in the safe.
  • Don’t bring valuable jewelry, accessories or electronics.
  • Carry cash and written phone numbers. Take a copy of your credit cards in case they are stolen.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings, and stay in groups. Don’t leave a party with a stranger.
  • If you choose to drink, please do so responsibly; don’t drive if you’ve been drinking. Stay together and designate a person in your group as group guardian.
  • Do not accept drinks from unknown sources, and do not leave drinks unattended.

We hope you have an enjoyable break and look forward to seeing you back on campus soon.
