The Bass School Mark

The meaning of the mark

Our mark is the stamp by which we present ourselves to the world. It represents who we are, where we come from, and our vision for the future. What does it look like when art, scholarship, and emerging technologies push boundaries in service of creativity? How do you encapsulate the many facets of our school?

The embedded capital

A capital “B” pays tribute to the transformational gift that established our School. It honors the Bass family and the Harry W. Bass Jr. Foundation. Their generosity actualizes its mission to enrich Texas citizens’ lives through support for education, arts, and culture.

The scroll

The circular spool at the center takes visual inspiration from our mascot, the UT Dallas Comets, the Greek Ionic capital, reflecting the historical architecture often associated with advanced thinking and scholarship and the vortex often appearing in cross-disciplinary works representing arts, music, and mathematics.

The trivium

In Latin, trivium means “the place where three roads meet.” Three bars represent the intersection of the arts, humanities, and technology. Emulating the bands worn on graduation regalia, they represent our scholarship.

The footing

The mark is perfectly balanced on its vertical axis, inferring stability and harmony. The blends of speed hites and vortices lend the illusion of forward motion. And the principal trajectory of the mark is acceleratory and points toward the future.
