Background Information about the Local Good Center

The Local Good Center is a group of people dedicated to helping the community around them, having a powerful vision β€œTo create lasting good within our community by providing access and empowerment for those in need.” Their organization helps families in need by providing various services, including their wellness program that prioritizes helping families in need move toward a healthier life. By giving families in need groceries, and teaching them how to cook healthy and nutritious meals, they can help these families move towards healthy lifestyles.

The Local Good Center started as the Chase Oaks Family Center launched in 2014, helping people under the same objective and making a difference to hundreds of families every year. Recently, they were able to expand and re-brand, moving to a new location in November 2021 and offering even more educational programs and services. Their mission to create lasting good within their local community is an admirable one, and through their Advocacy, Wellness, Job Readiness, and Education programs they are undeniably creating a positive impact on all those they meet.

Project Description

Our project is to improve our current check-in system for the clients coming into the center for groceries and implement a new page to enable clients to sign up for classes or events hosted by Local Good Center. The user will also be able to keep track of and update information about the client, including allergies and dietary restrictions. This includes a website that allows the user (either the client or the Local Good employees) to check in with clients using their registered phone numbers and sign up for events after checking in.

Specific Goals for Spring 2023 Semester

Our short-term goals include communicating with our project partner to gather information and clearly define what exactly they want to do, including the information they want to track and how they would like to implement the new events page as they check into the website. This semester, we want to integrate a system that allows users to sign up for events as they check in on the website. Our goal for this system is to showcase upcoming events, as well as remove events that have passed. We are also dedicating our time to finding out how to connect our system to Hubspot CRM to allow easy integration. Hubspot CRM is a database for the client to save and manipulate incoming data such as updates on checked-in customers and upcoming appointments; we currently aim to expand the check-in functionality.
