About Us

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) is a non-profit organization that provides talented young musicians in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with an opportunity to develop their musical skills and perform in high-quality orchestral concerts. The GDYO offers several orchestral ensembles, including a full symphony orchestra, a wind symphony, and a chamber orchestra, catering to musicians of various skill levels and ages. Through the guidance of experienced conductors and coaches, members of the GDYO receive comprehensive training in music theory, ensemble playing, and orchestral techniques, which prepares them for a career in music or higher education. Since its founding in 1972, the GDYO has been committed to fostering a love of music in the community and providing exceptional musical experiences for audiences. Directed by Maestro Richard Giangiulio, the GDYO performs four concerts annually at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The GDYO is “one of Dallas’ treasures” according to Scott Cantrell, classical music critic for the Dallas Morning News.

The end goal of the project is to have an Android & IOS compatible application (used by admins, instructors, students, and family) that solves the following four main issues for GDYO in order of highest to lowest priority: calendar, push notifications, upcoming events, attendance tracking, volunteer tracking & scheduling, and payment/form/fees tracking & management.

We are a team of 6 UTD students together creating a mobile app for the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.
