A Night At The Observatory

Visual DevelopmentFebruary 2024
Description

For a month, I researched and sketched out big props that I wanted to put in my scene.

I had to incorporate a telescope. I wanted to try and fit the big observatory telescope but, it was too big and would obscure too many elements in my scene.

The table and the orb were explorations as something to replace where the big telescope would’ve been.

Everything else is miscellaneous to help better fill in the scene.

This is the illustrated portion of the project. I visually developed different designs from the table, the floating projection, the books, the telescope, and all the miscellaneous magical artifacts. Then, I blocked the layout before placing the visual developed furniture and props into the scene. Afterwards, I chose which design I wanted to incorporate, ensuring that everything looked mystical. I wanted the space to be organized yet cluttered so that it was busy yet also supporting the main portion of the scene, the projection.

I used Clip Studio to draw everything and then Photoshop to adjust color tones. The dimensions are 5100x3300 pixels for 4K quality. Additionally, the top and bottom are larger than normal viewing size to allow space once I started animating.

The animated elements are incorporated here from the ring and orb revolving around the center projection, twinkling stars in the night sky, and having the projection and the books hovering or floating.

I used Clip Studio to Layer everything and After Effects to animate. I adjusted the dimension to 5300x3100 pixels to fit the normal cinema. I kept it high quality in case I wanted to zoom in.
