Nick Tsarevsky obtained M.S. degree in theoretical chemistry and chemical physics in 1999 from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, and Ph.D. degree in chemistry in 2005 from Carnegie Mellon University under the supervision of Prof. Kris Matyjaszewski. He was Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University (2005-6), and a member of the founding team of ATRP Solutions, Inc., of which he served as Chief Science Officer (2007-2010). He joined the Department of Chemistry at Southern Methodist University in the summer of 2010 as an assistant professor, and in 2016 he was promoted to associate professor with tenure.

He received several awards including, recently, an IUPAC Young Observer Fellowship, an NSF CAREER award, and the Wilfred T. Doherty Award (ACS, Dallas-Fort Worth Section). Research interests include polymerization techniques, functional materials, coordination chemistry and catalysis, and the chemistry hypervalent compounds, in addition to history of chemistry and chemical education. He served as Editor of Polymers for Advanced Technologies (Wiley) and has served as the the program chair of the Division for the History of Chemistry (HIST) of the ACS since 2018. Instructions and FAQs
  1. The talks will be hosted via Blackboard Collaborate.  Blackboard Collaborate works in your browser and does NOT require any software to be downloaded or installed.
  2. Click this link to join a “Test Room” (open till Saturday evening): https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/2ee50fc4ce654267bd5d1e18799213b7. You can use this room to test out Blackboard and prepare for your presentation.
  3. A tutorial video for using blackboard can be found here: https://youtu.be/8grmGESmxgY?t=47.
  4. Please join using your first name, last name, and university abbreviation.
  5. The Safari browser is known to have issues interfacing with and sharing screens on Blackboard. So, if you are using Apple products, please use Google Chrome to join the room in Blackboard, not Safari.
  6. Due to the added security on Apple products, screen sharing and microphone/camera use requires explicit permission to be given on the first use, and requires you to restart the program after giving permission. This is done under the “Security & Privacy” section of the system preferences. So, if you have an Apple product, please take this into account and use the provided test room, or come early, to take care of this prior to your presentation.
  7. It is possible to upload presentations to Blackboard, but this often results in file corruption.  We recommend using the “share screen” function for your presentations.
  8. If you have any questions, please email mike@utdallas.edu.
